炒外汇按照时间大致可以分为四种交易方式：超短线交易、短线交易、中长线交易、长线交易。通常超短线是指日内的操作，短线是指数日内的操作，中长线是数周至数月内的操作，更长的时间周期就是长线操作。
为了便于分析，下面将超短线、短线操作统称为短线操作，中长线，长线操作统称为长线操作。
而长线操作讲究大格局思维，逢低介入，逢高退出。不需要投资者充裕的时间以及过多的市场分析。需要的是投资者足够的信心和耐心。当市场人气低迷的时候，往往价格很低，大家都认为没有机会，市场成交量小，此时是长线投资者进场的机会，只需耐心持有外汇部位。当市场指数高涨人气沸腾的时候，就是长线投资者收获的时候。
那么如何选择短线操作还是长线操作，我认为要善于分析，因人而异，因市场而异。首先考虑个人因素，性格沉稳，有耐心，遇事不慌可以多选择长线操作。就像猎豹那样耐心等待时机捕猎物，三年不开张，开张吃三年。性格急躁，思想敏锐，可以多选择短线操作。打一枪换一地儿，集少成多，也能获得不错的交易成果。
外汇投资者要正确分析市场的因素，涨势跌势多做长线，考虑重点为商品合约的走势，在技术上多分析大周期的K线，耐心等待寻找最佳时机以及品种；盘整中多做短线，考虑重点为交易品种的波动性，技术上多分小周期的K线图，需要快进快出，充分把握资金的利用价值。
准确把握价格因素，总结大时间周内的价格波动范围，结合资金的入场位，价低做长线，不见兔子不撒鹰，但是万一形势逆转也能微利退出；价高做短线，赚到账户的钱才是钱，也不会被高位套牢。所以选择短线操作还是长线操作还是需要根据跟人因素以及市场因素综合进行判断取舍。
