美联储主席鲍威尔重申了该行将继续维持宽松货币政策的承诺，尽管他认为美国经济正在迅速复苏。
这包括一份近乎确定的声明，即利率不会向任何方向调整，因为通胀依然温和，在经济从新冠大流行造成的破坏中重建之际，数百万美国人仍需要援助。
鲍威尔在一次采访中表示：“我认为我们在今年加息的可能性极低。”
他补充称：“我可以保证，美联储将尽我们所能支持经济，在完成复苏所需要的任何时间内。”
这些支持包括接近于零的短期借贷利率，以及在2020年2月至4月经济活动大幅下滑后出台的每月1200亿美元债券购买计划。
尽管自危机最严重时期以来，美国经济已经恢复了1300多万个就业岗位，但仍有大约900万人失业。
随着各州和地方政府放宽限制，越来越多的人正重返工作岗位。但鲍威尔说，还需要做更多的工作，特别是对那些收入较低的人来说，他们遭受的冲击最大。
鲍威尔说：“我们并没有解决所有问题的答案，但我们为公众利益所做的工作是极其重要的，我们明白，如果我们做对了，我们就能真正帮助人们。如果处于经济边缘的人们生活得不错，那么其他部分就会自行解决。”
在最近的经济预测中，美联储官员预计2021年美国GDP将增长6.5%，这将是1984年以来最快的增长速度。
鲍威尔说：“我们和许多私营部门预测者都认为，强劲的增长和就业创造马上就会开始。真的，前景已经显著好转。”
不过，这并不意味着没有重大风险。鲍威尔说，他担心新冠肺炎病例的不断增加，他说，人们应该继续戴口罩，保持身体距离，以确保恢复工作继续进行。他说，他并不担心金融体系的稳定，但他担心的是持续不断的网络攻击，这些攻击有一天可能会造成严重破坏。
鲍威尔还说，他不担心通货膨胀，目前美国通胀率在1.6%左右，远低于美联储2%的目标。美联储已承诺将维持低利率，即使通胀在一段时间内略高于目标利率。
在谈到通胀问题时，鲍威尔说，他“希望看到它在一段时间内走上适度高于2%的轨道。当我们达到这个目标时，我们就会提高利率。”
